Pictionary for work, kept HR-safe
Most workplace icebreakers fail in one of two ways: too childish for a room of professionals, or one bad word away from an email from HR. This page is the main generator with the audience set to Adults, which on this site means references, not rudeness. It removes the preschool favourites (nobody is drawing Peppa Pig in front of the finance team) and unlocks about 9653 words written for grown-ups: deadline, inbox zero, performance review, the family group text, jury duty. Every one of them is clean enough for the all-hands, and every one gets a bigger laugh from a room that has lived it.
The office tier
The School & Office category is two things in one: classroom supplies in its easy and medium tiers, and office life in its hard tier. Set the Category to School & Office and the Difficulty to Hard and you get the office pool by itself, about 139 words: water cooler, conference room, slideshow, spreadsheet, pie chart, trust fall, icebreaker, elevator pitch, working lunch, out of office, muted mic, zoom fatigue, work from home, stapler jam. Technology & Gadgets adds the IT-desk classics (reply all, “you’re on mute”, forgot my password, printer jam, two-factor authentication), and Idioms & Phrases has the meeting vocabulary everyone pretends not to use: the ball is in your court, go the extra mile, back to square one, call it a day, cut corners. Fifteen-minute meeting formats
- Icebreaker (5 min). One All Play word. Everyone draws it on their own paper for 60 seconds, then holds it up; the group votes for the best and the worst. No teams, no losers, and the worst drawing is the one people talk about.
- Two-team sprint (10 min). Split the room, 45 seconds on the Timer menu, alternate drawers, first to five points. The scoreboard under the card keeps the totals.
- Draw your week (10 min). Set Words per turn to 3 and let each drawer pick the one that best describes their Monday. Guessing the word is half of it; the story afterwards is the other half.
- Lightning round (5 min). Easy tier, 30-second timer, one drawer, the whole room guesses, count the correct words. A fair fight between departments because nobody has time to be good.
The official rules, no letters, numbers, symbols or gestures, apply to all of them and take ten seconds to explain. The rules guide has scoring without the board.
Remote teams over video
Pictionary is one of the few games that survives a video call intact, because a drawing is a drawing whether it is on paper or a shared whiteboard. The host shares this page with Fullscreen on, which enlarges the word and the timer for the grid view; the drawer either uses the meeting’s whiteboard tool or points a camera at a sheet of paper; everyone else guesses out loud or in the chat, whichever your meeting culture prefers. Scoreboard by department
Nothing motivates a sales team like losing to accounting. For two departments the scoreboard under the card is enough. For more, run a round robin on a whiteboard: each pair of departments plays three turns a side, most points overall wins, and the session list makes sure no word is reused across matches. A tournament of four departments takes about forty minutes and one cheap trophy.
Keeping it appropriate
The Adults audience is clean by design, but a few habits help. Do not draw colleagues, and say so up front. If families join for a picnic or holiday party, switch the audience to Everyone and the adults-only set drops out mid-game with nothing repeating. For a company that wants the laughs without the office in-jokes, the funny words page with the Adults audience is the alternative, and the hard tier is for the offsite where the founders insist on winning.
