St. Patrick’s Day Pictionary words, honestly sized
This page runs the Pictionary word generator with the Holiday menu set to St. Patrick’s Day. It is the smallest set on the site, 41 words, and that is on purpose: the holiday has a shamrock, a leprechaun, a pot of gold, a parade and a river dyed green, and a list stretched beyond that fills up with words nobody would draw. So the set is every real icon (shamrock, four-leaf clover, green hat, gold coins, clover crown, fiddle), every tradition (St. Patrick’s Day parade, Irish jig, bagpipe band, green river, shamrock shake, wearing green) and the two jokes (pinch for not wearing green, green bagel). All of it sits on the easy tier and none of it is adults-only, so every audience setting draws the same pool. It runs a strong twenty-minute round; for a whole evening, see the mixing advice below.
Making it a longer game
The generator never repeats a word within a session, so with 41 words the set is exhausted after about four rounds of five turns. The fix is the Holiday menu above. Switch to Easter & Spring for the second half, which is the same time of year and the same pastel, kid-friendly register (daffodil, rain shower, egg hunt). Or set it to All holidays and let March draw from every season. For a grown-up table that wants something harder after the shamrocks, the idioms list is the traditional second act (the luck of the Irish is already in this set as a warm-up for it), and the hard page runs the whole difficult tier with the timer.
Classroom parties
For a March class party, the Easy tier and a projector fill twenty minutes with no prep. Every word is a picture the class has seen on the bulletin board that week, which makes it the fairest holiday set for the youngest years: a shamrock is three circles and a line, a rainbow’s end is an arc with a pot. Two teams, pairs drawing for the under-sevens, and the official 60-second timer for older classes. Pinch-free rules
The pinching tradition does not survive a room of eight-year-olds, so swap it: whoever is not wearing green draws first each round, and if pinch for not wearing green comes up, the drawer has to act it out on paper without touching anyone. Rounds to try
- Gold round. Pot of gold, gold coins, pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, rainbow’s end. Thirty-second timer, since they all begin with the same pot.
- Music round. Irish jig, fiddle, bagpipe band, then the music list for a second set. No humming.
- All green. Give the drawer only a green marker. Every word in the set still works, which is the point.
