Fall Pictionary words that are not Halloween

This page runs the Pictionary word generator with the Holiday menu set to Fall: about 69 words in the safe pool, and a few more with the Adults audience on. It is the season itself, with the two big holidays left to their own pages. The easy tier is the things you can see from a porch (leaf pile, rake, bonfire, acorn hunt, apple orchard, harvest moon, corn field, flannel shirt). The medium tier is what the season feels like (crunchy leaves, first sweater of the year, early sunset, first fire in the fireplace, migrating geese, soup season). Turn on Funny words only and it becomes the sweater-weather comedy: raking the same leaves twice, hiding from the leaf blower, fall photo shoot, pumpkin spice everything.

How it differs from Halloween and Thanksgiving

Three sets share the same three months, so here is the split. Halloween is costumes, candy and cartoon-spooky: ghosts, witches, trick-or-treating. Thanksgiving is the meal and the family: turkey, the parade, the kids’ table, the nap. Fall is everything around them: the weather, the leaves, the orchard, the first cold morning, football season, back to school. That makes it the right set for a classroom that keeps holidays out, for a September game when Halloween is too early, and for the cabin weekend where nobody wants to draw a turkey. The Holiday menu above switches between all three without leaving the page, and All holidays pools them for an October party.

    The autumn classroom

For a class party or a rainy indoor recess, the Kids audience with Easy difficulty and a projector fills half an hour with a whiteboard marker and nothing else. Every word on the easy tier is a thing the class saw on the walk in, which makes it a good vocabulary game for younger years: falling leaves, chilly morning, scarf weather, pumpkin bread. Older classes can take Medium with a 45-second timer and the rule that letters, numbers and gestures are out. The adults-only words (football tailgate, mulled cider, daylight saving time) never appear on the Kids or Everyone settings. The classroom page has whole-class formats and the kids page covers family night.

Harvest festivals and the cabin weekend

At a harvest festival or church fall fair, this page on a tablet in Fullscreen with a big pad on an easel runs itself: passers-by join a team, draw hay maze or scarecrow contest, and move on. At a cabin, it is the after-dinner game with the Funny switch on and the Adults audience, where pumpkin spice everything and fall photo shoot earn the biggest laughs. The session list means bonfire is drawn once across a whole weekend, and when the set runs out, All holidays keeps the game going.

    Rounds to try

    • Leaf round. Only the leaf words: leaf pile, falling leaves, crunchy leaves, jumping in leaves, leaf blower, raking the same leaves twice. Every drawing starts the same way, which is the joke.
    • Food and drink. Hot apple cider, apple cider donut, pumpkin bread, soup season, then the food list for a second course.
    • Weather round. First frost, early sunset, chilly morning, harvest moon, and the nature list for the rest of the sky.
    • Classic card. Switch to Classic card mode and every card is a five-word fall card with letters, All Play included.

    Printable fall Pictionary cards

To play with cards in a bowl, the printable page lays this set out as cut-out cards, five words per card. The holiday hub lists every seasonal set, and the rules guide covers scoring without the board.

    Frequently asked questions

What are good fall Pictionary words?

Easy: leaf pile, bonfire, rake, flannel shirt, apple orchard, harvest moon, jumping in leaves. Medium: crunchy leaves, apple cider donut, scarecrow contest, migrating geese. Funny: raking the same leaves twice, leaf blower, pumpkin spice everything, hiding from the leaf blower.

How is this different from the Halloween and Thanksgiving pages?

The fall set is the season without the two holidays: no ghosts, no turkey, no pilgrims. Halloween is costumes, candy and cartoon-spooky; Thanksgiving is the table, the parade and the nap. Fall is leaf piles, cider, sweaters and football, so it works from September to the end of November and in a classroom that keeps holidays out.

Is the fall set safe for a classroom?

Yes. With the Kids or Everyone audience the pool is leaves, weather, orchards and sweaters. The few grown-up words (pumpkin spice everything, football tailgate, mulled cider, daylight saving time) are tagged adults-only and stay out. The classroom page has whole-class formats.

Can I mix it with the Halloween words?

Yes. Switch the Holiday menu above to Halloween for a round, then back to Fall, and the session list keeps both from repeating. Or set it to All holidays in October for fall, Halloween and early Thanksgiving in one pool.

Is there a printable fall word list?

The printable page has a Fall option that prints the set as cut-out cards for a cabin weekend or a harvest festival table. Press Copy list under the generator to paste the words you used.
