A Pictionary generator built for children
This page opens the main generator with the audience set to Kids. Two things change. Every word tagged as a grown-up reference (office life, dating, the DMV, the family group text) is removed, and the difficulty is held to easy and medium unless you choose Hard yourself. What is left is about 7023 words a child can both draw and guess: animals, food, toys, actions, places, school things, the characters they know from cartoons and films, and the holidays they are already excited about. Words marked as kid favourites in the bank, from duck duck goose to Peppa Pig, appear more often here than anywhere else on the site.
Family game night
Mixed ages are the classic Pictionary problem: an adult drawing photosynthesis and a seven-year-old drawing frog are not playing the same game. The simplest fix is two settings on two phones. Children draw from this page; adults draw from the hard words page. Everyone guesses everything. Keep the Hide the word until tapped switch on so the phone can be passed across the table, and use the scoreboard under the card so the youngest player can keep score, which is often their favourite job. If you own the board, Classic card mode generates a five-word card and lets the child press Roll the die.
In the classroom
Teachers have used Pictionary for vocabulary since long before there was a website for it, because it makes a child say the word out loud, on purpose, in front of friends. Some ways to run it:
- One category per lesson. Animals for a science unit, Food for a nutrition lesson, Actions for verbs, Emotions & Feelings for a circle-time session on naming moods, Places for geography. Pick it from the Category menu and the whole game stays on topic.
- Whole-class on the board. Press Fullscreen, plug into the projector, and let two pupils draw at once on the whiteboard for an All Play round.
- Small groups. Open the page on a tablet per table with Hide the word until tapped on. Each group runs its own game.
- ESL and EFL. Stay in the easy tier and have the guessing team say the word in full sentences. The Copy list button under the card gives you the vocabulary you covered for a follow-up worksheet.
- Reward time. The funny words page with the Kids audience is the five-minute treat at the end of a Friday.
Birthday parties
For a party of eight or more, play in two teams with a 30-second timer and easy words, and let the birthday child draw first. Themed sets help a party feel planned: the Halloween, Christmas and birthday editions have their own kids pools. For a quieter station, print a sheet of cards from the printable page and let children draw a card from a bowl.
Kid-friendly rules
The real rules are short: no letters, no numbers, no talking from the drawer, one minute on the clock. With younger children it helps to relax two of them. Allow the drawer to nod or shake their head when a guess is close, and allow a team of two to draw together.
