The A line, explained
On a classic Pictionary card the A line is Action. It is the funniest line to watch and the best category for a verbs lesson. The generator above builds a full five-word card and rolls the die; when the roll shows A, the drawer uses the word on this line. Every word in the bank carries a letter, so the 1557 words below are exactly what the A line is drawn from: run, swim, sleep in the easy tier, juggle, whistle, shiver in the medium tier and playing possum, dog stealing a sandwich, swimming with dolphins in the hard tier.
How to draw action words
Actions need a body and a moment. Draw the stick figure mid-motion with motion lines (which are allowed; gestures from you are not), and if the verb has no single pose, draw a two-frame before-and-after. Show the object the action is done to: a pancake in the air says flip. The drawing guide goes deeper, with a worked example for each kind of word.
House rules for the A line
Actions are the line most often played as All Play, because three teams drawing “sneeze” at once is the whole point of the game. The rules guide lists the official scoring and the popular variations; the printable page puts cards with all five lines on paper.
